Lesson Two: Establishing Shot –“Street”

Today’s Tip: While you’re free to take a picture from any angle, try to capture an establishing shot: a wide-angle photo that sets up a scene. You may need to back up a few steps, or climb some stairs to higher ground to fit the whole scene in one shot.

For this lesson, I am trying to take a wide-angle photo with short focal length (with the camera zoomed out) and capture a wide view within the frame.

There are two basic components in a wide-angle photo : a foreground and a background. The foreground is the part of the scene that’s nearest ,where there is a subject or a focal point of the picture.

I took this opportunity to explore a new place that I have heard so much about, Freak Alley Gallery located in Boise, Idaho. It is the largest outdoor gallery in the Northwest USA and home to a diverse, ever-changing collections of murals and graffiti created by a variety of local artists. Beginning with a painting of a single alley doorway and now extends from the alley itself to gravel parking lot.
